The Legal Department oversees all legal aspects supporting (in the broad sense) the conduct of the various businesses of the group (natural gas, hydrogen and CCUS), including proactively through risk management.
The geographical scope of the work is focused on Belgium but includes servicing to the whole Fluxys group, including ensuring a coherent approach of transversal matters across the group
The Legal Department at our head office in Brussels is looking for a Legal Counsel (m/f/x).
You will provide legal support on commercial, regulatory, procurement, construction, and operations-related matters for Fluxys businesses. You will collaborate closely with various departments and stakeholders to ensure compliance and develop effective legal frameworks.You will manage contracts, handle disputes, and address permitting issues to support business activities.
The core responsibility of the function is to provide legal support on commercial, regulatory, procurement, construction and operations-related matters to the Fluxys businesses.
You will work closely together with the relevant Legal Manager and the General Counsel as well as with the other Legal Counsels in the Department and interact daily with the commercial, regulatory, public affairs, asset delivery and business development departments.You will also engage with our clients and other stakeholders such as energy regulators and administrations.
As a legal counsel, you will be in charge of the following three key areas:
- Commercial and regulatory matters
- - You will work closely with the commercial and regulatory teams providing legal advice in support of (regulated) commercial activities (e.g. drafting contracts, helping structure new services and product offerings, settle disputes)
- You will follow-up relevant legislative developments at European and Belgian federal and regional levels and help elaborate business conducive legal and regulatory frameworks for our various activities together with our public affairs team
- You will help ensure compliance with the applicable legal and regulatory frameworks in rapidly evolving energy transition and geopolitical contexts (e.g. energy law, competition law, cybersecurity and critical entities related obligations, international sanctions)
- Procurement and construction contracts
- - You will negotiate, draft and review procurement and construction contracts (such as engineering, procurement and construction contracts) together with the technical experts of Fluxys
- You will provide support to and advise the procurement department
- Litigation and permitting
- - You will manage claims and legal disputes with the support of external counsels
- You will advise the permitting department on legal issues relating to the permits (environment, construction, specific transmission permits, etc.) required for the projects
- You have a master’s degree in law with a thorough knowledge of both commercial law (contract law, civil law, real estate and construction law) and public law (energy law, constitutional law, administrative law, environmental law and competition law)
- You have at least 5 years of experience as an in-house legal counsel or as a lawyer
- You have strong analytical skills with an eye for quality
- You have a critical mindset and can manage legal risks. You can display a pragmatic and flexible approach to meet the business needs
- You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and enjoy collaborating with non-legal departments (in a project dynamic of helping achieve business goals). You can negotiate and convince others
- You speak fluently French and Dutch (and have excellent writing skills in at least one of those language) and have a good command of English
